Introduction
The Department of Pediatrics at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital was established in September 1985 and became a master’s degree program in clinical medicine in 2003. In 2013, it was designated as a“National Thalassemia Diagnosis and Treatment Demonstration Center”and the“Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital Multidisciplinary Epilepsy Treatment Center. In 2015, the“Shenzhen Thalassemia Prevention and Control Association”was established. By 2018, the department became the base for the pediatric neurorehabilitation team led by Professor Wang Yi from Fudan University Children’s Hospital, as part of the“Sanming Project of Medical Excellence.” It joined the Sun Yat-sen University Women’s and Children’s Alliance and the Shenzhen Pediatric Rehabilitation Specialty Alliance in 2021, and in 2023 became a member of the Guangdong Pediatric Rehabilitation Specialty Alliance and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pediatric Allergy Alliance.
Currently, the department employs 78 staff members, including 26 physicians, 8 rehabilitation therapists, 4 technicians, and 40 nursing staff. The team comprises 1 chief physician, 11 associate chief physicians, 11 attending physicians, and 3 resident physicians. Among them, one has a doctoral degree, one is pursuing a doctorate, and 16 hold master’s degrees. The inpatient unit spans two floors with 80 beds, including 50 in the general pediatric ward and 30 in the neonatal ward. Subspecialties include pediatric neurorehabilitation, hematology, neonatology, critical care, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, cardiology, and child health. Specialized outpatient clinics include neurorehabilitation, high-risk infants, epilepsy, ADHD and tic disorders, asthma, precocious puberty and short stature, thalassemia MDT, and child health.
